Hello and welcome, my name is Patrick James Murphy and I've been working in college athletics in some capacity since just about the day I set foot on campus in Rolla, Missouri as a freshman. I've worked in several different roles, all of which have helped prepare me for anything I may encounter in the ever changing world we work in. Below is just a brief recap of my career to date. Thanks for reading. Cheers.
Missouri S&T
2013-2019
My career began at the Missouri university of Science & technology in Rolla, Missouri. Having gone to walk-on tryouts and not made the baseball team, I reached out to head coach Todd DeGraffenreid about becoming a student manager for the program. We met during my first week on campus, and in the words of Humphrey Bogart, "That was the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
I spent six seasons with the baseball program as manager and eventually director of baseball operations. I assisted with day-to-day operations of the program and worked with the sports information office to ensure the smooth execution of home gamedays. my list of duties and responsibilities was long and extensive, but I always brought a high level of energy to the ballpark each day.
During my time with the program, I was a part of five postseason appearances, including two regular-season conference titles in 2016 and 2019 and an NCAA Division II Midwest Regional appearance in 2016, which saw the team post a single-season win mark of 39 and advance to the regional championship game. I was able to create a twitter account for the team in 2014, something that previously didn't exist, and over the course of five seasons, amassed over 1,000 followers.
In the fall of 2014, I began my involvement with the sports information office as a student worker, beginning with football season as a member of the timing and scoreboard crew. Under the guidance of John Kean and Luke Rinne, I became more involved with the office into the winter of 2014-15 and in the years to come.  As the years progressed, I became the go-to whenever assistance was needed and once again performed an array of duties at indoor and outdoor venues and became well-versed in all facets of game presentation, ranging from using statistical software to being the public address voice of Miner basketball in my final year.

Wisconsin Woodchucks
2018 & 2019
I spent two seasons in the Northwoods League, one of the premiere leagues for collegiate summer baseball in the country. I worked as the clubhouse attendant and assisted with ballpark operations during home events. I was responsible for maintaining the clubhouse area and tracking the assignments of all team- and league-issued uniform items. During my two stints, I was able to revamp the equipment management system streamline the restocking process of equipment with the general manager.
Additional duties included preparation and serving of pre- and post-game meals to home and away clubs each night, daily cleanings of the clubhouse, washing uniforms and player personals of both teams when necessary and other duties as assigned. Coaches and players of the woodchucks and other teams on the schedule knew that when they came to Wausau, they would be taken care of.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
2019-2020
Immediately after the conclusion of my second season up north, I headed 30 hours south to Daytona Beach, Florida to work in the sports information office of Embry-Riddle aeronautical university. alongside Alison Smalling, Ryan Mosher and Michael Pierce, I was responsible for providing coverage of the university's 19 varsity athletic teams. I served as the primary contact for men's golf, men's soccer and softball. In addition to performing gameday duties associated with those sports, I worked with our sports marketing department on several occasions to assist in the development of digital and print materials for certain events throughout the year. One of those pieces, the 2020 men's lacrosse Poster, was recognized by CoSIDA in the 2020 publications and design contest as the second-best schedule poster in the fall/winter/spring - college division.

Jacksonville University
2020-2021
I joined the athletic communications staff at Jacksonville University in October of 2020 and right away spent time getting my assigned sports caught up with all that had gone on as a result of covid-19. as they primary media contact for women's basketball, indoor and beach volleyball and our nationally-known women's lacrosse team, there was definitely some updating to do. Over the course of the year, we worked to overcome the obstacles posed by COVID-19 to compete in all of our sports during the year. As things would go, I ended up being the primary media contact for nine different sports at one time, adding men's and women's soccer, men's and women's rowing and softball to my list of responsibilities. We hosted the Final Four of the ASUN Men's Soccer Championship with JU defeating FGCU for the title and also hosted the opening rounds of the ASUN Men's Basketball Tournament. Our softball team advanced to the Final Four of the ASUN Softball Championship and our women's lacrosse team posted one of the best seasons in school history, recording their first-ever win over a Top-Five program, winning the ASUN Championship for the ninth time and winning the program's first NCAA Tournament First Round game in the Gainesville Regional.

Missouri S&T
2021-2022
Timing and opportunity is a strange and wonderful thing in the world of collegiate athletics. Opportunities arise when you least expect them and some times you get the chance to do something really special. Like go back to your alma mater on a full-time basis. In September 2021, I returned to Rolla as the Assistant Sports Information Director back alongside John Kean. I served as the primary media contact for women's soccer, women's volleyball, women's basketball, men's golf and baseball while serving as our social media coordinator, graphic designer and host and producer of the Inside The Mine Podcast. While my second stint in Rolla was much shorter than the first go round, it was just as special to be able to give back to the place that gave me my start way back in 2013.

Colorado School of Mines
2022-Present
Sometimes, one has to out and find opportunity. Other times, opportunity makes its way to you. Such was it when I was browsing Facebook one night and saw an opportunity for a position at the Colorado School of Mines for a second full-time assistant SID. With where I was and still am in my career, for many reasons outside work, I had to apply for it. I must have said enough of the right things on my interview because I started as the Athletics Communications Coordinator on the Tuesday after Labor Day as the contact for men's and women's soccer, men's basketball and softball while assisting with coverage of the rest of Mines Athletics and helping branch out with creative services. Here's to seeing what the future holds in Colorado.
